Student's work.....

As many of you know, I do private lessons and also help guide students with individual paintings.  I just had to show off Christine's painting of a golf course for her Dad.  Since she's already given it to him, I thought I would share her hard work with you.  She did an amazing job!  And NO....I didn't touch that canvas!!!  That's all her!!  Congrats on a job well done Christine!!!!  (You can see the blown up photo right behind her canvas.)

As you can see, she's putting the final "tweaks" in these paintings.  Well done!!!!!

Exhausted!!!!

I know that everyone was exhausted after our little lighthouse painting.  But what a fabulous job you all did!  Remember to break down buildings into simple shapes and keep on painting!!!

The fun is in the details....

I wish I had taken more step by step photos of this little still life. I'm posting it to show how by adding just a few details to the dish, it can really make a difference. What would be considered a pretty complicated bowl to paint/draw is simplified by just leaving it white and getting the shape on the canvas. I then go in with the shadows and highlights to give it dimension. Don't let complicated subjects intimidate you!! Start them out with basic shapes and go from there.

On another note, first class of the 2012 for my Kentucky students is this weekend! I'm so excited to paint with everyone again and can't wait to see you in person!! Happy painting!

Next class painting at von Liebig

Wow, what a busy couple of weeks I've had. Yesterday, I had the privilege of doing a demo with Mary Sheehan Winn of the Just Painting Blog at the von Liebig Art Center family day. What fun it was! Mary is also offering a painting class here and I highly recommend it. Thanks to all of you who stopped by for a chat or with your painting questions. Also, it was great to meet all of the young future artists. What a nice group of young people they had volunteering there. Happy Painting everyone!!

Here's the next painting this Thursday February 9th at my class at the von Liebig. Hope to see you there!!!

Next painting for October 8th...

Rough week. I lost a dear friend and the funeral was this weekend. The highlight of my weekend was Saturday's class. I of course forgot to take photos! I had a great time and as usual you guys did some wonderful paintings.

Here's the painting for October the 8th. I love these simple seascapes with lots of color! Morning class is booked, but I've still got a couple openings in the afternoon class. As always I take a wait list, because I do get cancellations. I'm excited to work on this with everyone! Happy painting!

Way to go everyone!

Well, we had a bunch of newbies and some of my regular veteran painters this class and everyone did a wonderful job! As I have said before, I'm not a fan of the Bob Ross Barns..(Bob I'm sure you're rolling over in your grave!!), however, I feel like everyone learned something about converting what we see into simpler shapes so you can paint your own buildings. Fantastic job and Happy Painting!!!

Blue Ribbon...

This was my entry in the fair this year. I got a blue ribbon! (Wehoo!) To encourage more of my students to enter paintings at the local fair next year, I'm thinking about having a bit of a competition. Maybe something like you get a free or discounted class if you can beat me. There was not nearly enough competition this year and I would like to boost it up a bit. How cool would that be if one of my students beat me! I'm just mulling it around for now. Happy Painting!

Great class this past Saturday.....

Wonderful job everyone...and of course I didn't take photos again! I get to talking so much at the end of both classes I end up forgetting. We had some wonderful waterfalls leave the building that day and you should be very proud!!!

This is a photo of the next painting for July 23rd. It's a 16 x 20 inch size, so you'll need a bigger frame than normal if you've signed up.

Thanks everyone again for a great class and Happy Painting!!!

Happy Tuesday!!

Well, we had another great class on Saturday and once again, I didn't remember to get my camera out until most of you were gone! So Sorry! After 23 students, I was beat the next day! Crazy! Everyone fantastic job! The first photo I guess someone decided to take while I was helping Susan mix some paint and I see Christine admiring (or evaluating more likely!) her work. All I have to say about this one is....does my hair really look like that!!!! LOL! Ok, I got rained on that morning, so I guess it could have been worse! The next photo is part of the "Melton family painters" as I like to call them. The third is Judy and Donna, some newbies to my classes, though, you certainly can't tell it! Happy painting everyone!!! I'll be recuperating this week!

June 4th Paintings in class...

Ok, I know I should post this many photos all at once, but I finally remembered to bring my camera and take a few snapshots so I'm posting some that I took. I'm sure I'm missing some folks, but I can only get blogger to allow me 5 per post. Everyone, you did fantastic!! Why some of these are in focus and some are not, I'll never know. I'm sure it's me, not the camera! Happy Painting!!!
